Assistant Manager

As Assistant Store Manager, you will support the Store Manager in maintaining Total Wine & More’s brand by executing all company programs and best practices focusing on exceptional service, selection, and value. This includes developing overall store strategies and tactics to achieve sales, service, and operational performance goals. You will be responsible for executing merchandise and visual presentation standards; facilitating the efficient flow of merchandise to the sales floor; and promoting Total Wine & More products and services to our customers. You will perform Manager-on-duty functions and may serve in a team member capacity to support the merchandiser/stock associates and cashiers or assist customers on the sales floor as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive retail sales, margin, and Winery Direct metrics
  • Deliver Payroll & Controllable expenses on plan 
  • Accountable for learning and sharing Total Wine & More’s full product portfolio and providing customers with recommendations that connect them to the right product(s)
  • Ensure customer service standards are met by all 
  • Responsible for Inventory Control 
  • Responsible for replenishment, following receiving and merchandising guidelines and pricing/signing strategies 
  • Assist Store Manager with reviewing orders 
  • Work collaboratively with vendors as needed
  • Oversee general operations according to company Policy & Procedure
  •  Interview, hire, train and develop team members; provide team with timely feedback, both formal and informal 
  • Actively participate in team member performance management

Minimum Experience, Skills and Education:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • 2 years retail sales, customer service, or hospitality management experience
  • Prior experience in leading a sales-focused team and creating a sales culture/environment
  • Prior experience managing overall financial performance
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as business requires
  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Experience, Skills and Education:

  • 4-year degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Retail Manager experience in a big or medium box retail store environment
  • Strong business agility and flexibility    
  • Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks at a time and meet deadlines
  • History of willingly assisting others and acting as a team player

Physical Requirements (with or without accommodations):

  • Ability to walk, bend down repeatedly, and be on feet for 10-12 hours a day
  • Ability to climb ladders and lift 50 lbs. overhead and repeatedly
